Broome Holidays ( day five)

Monday 28 June.
After Breakfast at the Zoo cafe, we returned
to the resort where we were met by a
good looking girl from the car rental.
(she could not drive, stall the car 3 times
and ran over corners of footpaths)
She drove to the shop for the papers work
and then we were on our way to
"Willie Creek Pearl Farm"

around the pearl farm

a pearling oyster, they are huge.
Only the whitish muscle in the middle is eatable

This is the nucleus they put in the oyster.
They start with a piece of shell (from the
Mississippi mussel)
make it round, and them implant it
Beautiful pearls
a fortune in my hand

flukes but they still make jewellery out of them

I like this one, but still toooooooooo expensive.
It is a faulty one, they mont those either
with a circle of gold or a cap on.
The hatchery
The oysters are suspended in panels from
longlines several metres from the surface.

The guide show us a panel and show us
how to clean them of the marine organisms
which grow on them.
They X ray those panel to see if the oyster
has rejected the nucleus and also to
check on the size of the pearl.
looking for crocodiles
(did not see any)

In the evening we drove to Town Beach.
Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
are the days you can see the
"stairway to the moon"
when the moon get up
the light of it on the mud make stairs

I don't have a good enough camera,
but they are souvenirs.
It was very impressive.
It only happen when there is a full moon
so we were lucky to be there at
the right time.
On those days they have a market and
food stalls and music.
It was great we bought food found a nice
spot to eat and wait for the moon.
