Brome Holidays (day six)

Tuesday 29 June
Another glorious day.
With our little rented 4x4 we travelled
about 220 km to Derby.

we saw a lot of ant hills
the jetty, the tide was coming in very fast

Derby wharf
The tide was coming in very fast.
The tides are Australia's highest, with tidal
variations as much as 11 metres.

the covered jetty to load the minerals
into the boats.

the old goal is next to the current
police station.

Myall's bore is 322 metre deep

the cattle trough is 120 metres long
and was built around 1917.
The trough could handle 500 bullocks
at one time.

is believed to be about 1500 years old.

at the top inside the tree

Claude is just standing at the entrance.
It is very narrow.
It was a staging point for Aboriginal prisoners
being walk into Derby in the early days.
The poor Aboriginals were treated very badly.
another boab tree and ant hill

wile in Derby we went to look at Christopher
2 properties. He is renting them out.
This one is a brand new town house.
Each unit has a up and down.
His is behind the tree.

we could not see much from the car and all
the shrubbery

Back at Broome
In the evening we went to the old open
air cinema
It is the oldest WORKING open air cinema
in the world!
A couple standing in the queue told us that
the last time they were here the movie
was Bonnie and Clyde and when all the
shooting was going on a jet plane passed
very low over and all the people got a
scare and screamed.
But no plane tonight
old movie stuff

and this is the movie we saw.
