Thursday 18 September
Nice, crisp day.
In one week time we will be flying to Hawaii
But today we are going to visit the James Craig
and the Sydney heritage fleet and workshop.
We took the bus to the city and walk to Darling Harbour.
walking across the Pyrmont bridge.
we went to see our name on the welcoming wall
and then it was time to board the James Craig
for morning tea and a tour around the sailing ship
in the hull
an hammock ( just for show)
they have sleep over and the hull is full of hammocks.
Shane and the cubs sis it last year.
officers cabin
captain bathroom
captain desk in his cabin
one of the guides/ volunteer
the galley
Then we boarded the Harman an ex RAN motor launch
build in 1943
we went for a cruise around the harbour
this is the Barangaroo development, it is going to be HUGE.
2 ships being restored by another group
we passed in front of Cockatoo island.
Anzac bridge
the old bridge, some conservation group want to
keep it, meanwhile it is decaying.
Then we arrived at Rozelle shipyard and workshop.
the John Oxley is the next big project.
I won't see it finished as it took the 30 years to do
the James Craig!!!
I remember the Kanangra doing the zoo trip.
you can chartered the Lady Hopetoun ( 1902 )
it is a classic Edwardian steam launch.
Nobody was working on the Kanangra today, they
were helping with the John Oxley
Back on board the Harman for a trip to the fish market
Where we went for lunch at the end of our tour.
I had grilled fish, chips and salad
Claude had oysters.
We celebrated a very nice and informative day
with a glass of chilled white wine.
Very nice day but we still had the trip home:
light rail from the fish market to Pyrmont Bay,
ferry to Circular quay,
ferry to Manly, bus home
It is amazing the nice trip (Claude does not think so )
you can do as a Senior for $2.50
